Tell us about your experiences of child maintenance

Posted 25 June 2024

The Child Maintenance Service (CMS) isn’t working as well as it could for separated parents and their children.

We know, from official data and from calls to our helpline, that child maintenance doesn’t always reach the families of children who need it. We also know that there are many separated parents who have no maintenance arrangement in place at all.

That’s why Gingerbread are carrying out research about the CMS funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. We aim to find out more about separated parents’ experiences of child maintenance.

So, if you are separated from the other parent of your child or children, then we want to hear from you.

It could be that you:

  • Pay maintenance
  • Receive maintenance
  • Use the Child Maintenance Service (CMS)
  • Have a private arrangement in place
  • Have no arrangement in place at all.

The findings of the research will be used to shape recommendations to the next government and drive forward a campaign for change.

Please tell us about your experiences by completing our survey. It should take between 10 to 15 minutes.

If you’re worried about your family’s privacy, you can complete the survey anonymously, so you do not have to provide your name or any contact details. If you choose to provide your name and contact details, you’ll be entered into a draw to win one of two £50 shopping vouchers.

Your data will be stored and managed according to our privacy policy.
