Gingerbread becomes a member of the Disabled Children’s Partnership

Gingerbread is thrilled to join the Disabled Children’s Partnership (DCP) – a growing coalition of more than 90 organisations – campaigning for improved health and social care for disabled children, young people and their families in England.

Research from the DCP has shown that 97% of parents with a disabled child do not believe the public understands the challenges they face. With nearly half (43%) of the British public unfamiliar with anyone who is disabled, many are simply unaware about the needs of families caring for disabled children.

The DCP exists to address the lack of health and social care services, improve the quality of services available, make sure families can access those services and ensure professionals communicate with each other and work together.

Jo Hardy, Head of Services, said ‘Around 25% of parents who contact Gingerbread care for a disabled child, so we know how important it is for single parents and their families to be able to access the services they need, when they need them.’

We look forward to working with like-minded organisations to raise awareness, improve understanding and campaign for change in partnership with single parents to ensure that disabled children, young people and their families have access to the services they are entitled to, when they need them.
