Gingerbread, the national charity for single parents, is celebrating after being awarded £138,417 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.

Gingerbread will use their funding to run their Single Parent Peer Support Service. The funding will help to maintain existing single parent peer support services to help 2,500 local group members and 35,000 forum users feel less isolated, more resilient and better able to cope.

National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. The National Lottery Community Fund distributes a share of this to projects to support people and communities to prosper and thrive.

Jo Hardy, Head of Services, said ‘It’s fantastic to have money to continue the great work we have started with our peer support groups both regionally across England and Wales, and thematically on the topics of wellbeing, and money and poverty. This will make a bit different to people’s lives, so thank you National Lottery players.’

During the pandemic, in 2020 alone, The National Lottery Community Fund distributed almost £1 billion to charities and community organisations across the UK.
