Benefits of working for us

Staff at Gingerbread are driven by the goal of making a difference to the lives of single parent families. We are hard working and creative, and are always looking for ways to work smarter and more effectively.

With about 70 staff in England and Wales, we have a small and friendly feel. We achieve results by working collaboratively across teams and offices. In our latest staff survey, 98 per cent of staff said their relationships with colleagues were excellent or good.

At Gingerbread, we work in a way that helps everyone succeed.  Staff work in line with our values, helping others and pulling together, valuing different expertise and approaches, and making things happen.

Our determination to make a difference means that all staff have the opportunity to really get involved in our projects and take responsibility.  Staff have access to training and development opportunities, so that everyone can contribute fully to achieving our aims. We learn from each other and share knowledge.

We listen to the views of single parents, and we act on what we hear, so you’ll know that your work will directly help single parents and their children improve their lives.

At Gingerbread we rely on the skills, knowledge and positive attitude of staff to improve the lives of single parent families. In return, we offer generous benefits, competitive salaries, training and development,  as well as the opportunity to balance your work and personal life.

We offer competitive salaries within the charity sector. Salaries are reviewed each year.

Our group personal pension scheme offers a 5 per cent employer contribution for employees who contribute at least 1.25 per cent.

Our full-time working hours are 35 per week, with many roles offered on a part-time basis.

Annual leave
We offer a generous annual leave entitlement of 28 days per year, rising to 29 days after 5 years’ service, plus bank holidays, plus paid office closure over Christmas.

Flexibility and work-life balance
Gingerbread understands the needs of working parents, and we offer a range of options for balancing work and family, many of which are open to staff who wish to balance work and their personal life for any reason.

Our flexitime scheme enables staff to flex their working hours to suit their preferred working pattern.

Care leave for dependants
We offer up to five days’ paid leave to care for dependants in an emergency.

Flexible working
Staff may request flexible working options from the start of their employment, and many staff work part-time or partly from home.

We offer staff the opportunity to take an unpaid sabbatical after two years’ employment.

Maternity/paternity leave
Our maternity policies are enhanced, offering up to 65 weeks maternity leave and generous maternity pay. We also offer generous paternity and additional paternity leave and pay.

Training and development
Gingerbread is committed to actively encouraging the personal and professional development of staff. Each member of staff has a personal development plan as part of their annual appraisal, which is reviewed during supervision meetings throughout the year.

We offer a range of other benefits for staff including:
• Free tea/coffee
• Interest free season ticket loan
• Childcare vouchers
• Cycle to work scheme
