Peer Support Officer
£22,224 per annum
Full time (35 hours per week)
Initial Fixed Term Contract – 1 year
Location: Cardiff (with travel to regional delivery areas)

Gingerbread provides expert advice, practical support, and campaigns to improve the lives of single parent families. We work with single parents who face substantial barriers to entering education, training, or work and help them gain confidence and skills to become ready to progress and facilitate peer support to tackle isolation.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced volunteer co coordinator to join the Wales team and play a fundamental role in increasing our peer support services in Wales, specifically on a project supporting single parents in Communities First areas funded through Communities for Work via the European Social Fund.


As a Peer Support Officer you will use your skills to:

  • Develop and implement a community outreach programme to recruit single parents volunteers to run local peer support groups. 
  • Recruit and train a panel of single parents as peer mentors.
  • Facilitate individual coaching sessions to support single parent peer mentors and volunteers.
  • Develop and facilitate peer support between single parent volunteers.
  • Increase the awareness and promote the benefits of Gingerbread’s peer support groups.
  • Work with the Gingerbread peer support team to develop and deliver communications tailored to single parents.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrable experience of successfully engaging volunteers / hard to reach groups in peer support and volunteer programmes.
  • Experience of managing, coaching, and supporting volunteers in a community setting to make positive progression.
  • Experience of delivering outcome focused and community based workshops, (specific experience of work with single parents desirable).
  • Ability to work confidently in a digital office including standard Microsoft software, CRM databases and social media.
  • An understanding of the issues affecting single parents, including young single parents.
  • Excellent communications skills to inspire single parents and work in partnerships.
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and understand the importance of meeting contractual targets.

 

The post is based in Cardiff with travel to our South Wales regional delivery areas including Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Blaenau Gwent, Merthyr Tydfil and Newport.

This is an exciting opportunity for two experienced individuals to join the Wales team working on our training programmes, specifically a project supporting single parents in Communities First areas funded through Communities for Work via the European Social Fund.

As Project Officer you will use your skills to:

  • Recruit single parents to support our programmes, including planning and attending engagement events.
  • Provide guidance and ongoing support.
  • Deliver training and workshops to single parents.
  • Support accreditation and verification activities.
  • Arrange work experience and/or volunteering placements.
  • Provide coaching and pre and post programme support.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of supporting disadvantaged individuals to commence the transition to progress towards paid work, education or training.
  • Relevant and recent IT skills, particularly in updating and maintaining databases and participant records.
  • Experience of delivering training and workshops.
  • An understanding of the issues affecting single parents, including young single parents.
  • Excellent communications skills to inspire single parents and work in partnerships.
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and understand the importance of meeting contractual targets.
