Creating connections

We are proud to announce that our project, Creating Connections, has reached the finals of the National Lottery Awards. In conjunction with the Mental Health Foundation, Creating Connections was a project designed to help single parents better their mental health and learn wellbeing techniques.

Our project is the only in its category to represent single parents, and we are thrilled to have the recognition of the nomination. The Awards celebrate and recognise projects which have made a difference to communities across the UK and the recognition will help us to support move single parents in future.

About Creating Connections

Creating Connections supported over 200 single parents with support networks and practical skills, to help them improve their mental health. In total, more than 1,500 people were helped via peer support and online advice and information.

The programme aimed to help single parents develop peer support networks, to lessen the problems of loneliness and isolation that can have an impact on many groups, including single parents. By developing these networks, single parents were encouraged to see themselves as part of a wider group of families, enabling them to meet the challenges and opportunities of single parenthood.

The programme had a significant positive impact on many single parents – in particular Debbie, who says that Creating Connections saved her: "I did the course at a crucial part of my life and I have said many times that it actually saved me. I know that sounds dramatic but I was at the point in my life where I needed some support and guidance, and I am so glad that that is what I got from the course."
