London elections 2016
Sadiq Khan has been voted the new Mayor of London. In response to the London mayoral elections Gingerbread Chief Executive Fiona Weir said:
“We look forward to working with the new Mayor of London to support London’s 320,000 single parents. One area that needs to be addressed by the new administration is the high cost of childcare; Sadiq Khan has said he will take steps to tackle this, describing our policy proposal for a childcare deposit guarantee as ‘worthy of serious attention’.

Ahead of the elections, we met with candidates from all of the major parties and called on them to commit to Upfront: a childcare deposit guarantee. You can see what each candidate said they'd do to support London's single parents in their candidate blogs.
Throughout the campaign, single parents told us about the struggles they face juggling work and accessing affordable childcare in the city. A group of single parents wrote their own campaign blogs highlighting the challenges they face in the city. The campaign was also successful in achieving fantastic coverage from London and national media helping to further promote the need for affordable childcare.
Thank you to everyone who took part in the campaign and helped us campaign for affordable childcare in the capital.
