Jobseeker’s allowance – special rules for single parents

There are special rules for single parents who claim jobseeker’s allowance. This factsheet explains what the rules are and where they can be found in the law. If you are having difficulties with Jobcentre Plus in relation to any of the issues in this factsheet, you may want to take this information with you to your appointment.

Universal credit is a new benefit system that will replace many of the current benefits and tax credits. From December 2014 some families with children who are claiming benefits for the first time in selected jobcentres may claim universal credit.
